Only one blog….

March 11, 2007

It will be unwise for me to update a few blogs with similar contents.

From now, I only update on this blogwww.caricature.com.sg

This takes me about 3- 4 working days to complete and working on another pitching job for a shopping mall concurrently, which explain why you don’t see me blogging for these few days. This is a farewell gift for the staff from SembCorp Gas to their boss who’s leaving this department to another one (see the structures in the distant background). They want this boss to be portrayed as a Superman (a favourite theme among my clients – I will show you a couple more similar in a few days’ time). He’s quite fat, and they want to show him to have a great influence. They also want to incorporate the 3 pipes in their plant in Jurong Island, Singapore. Hence, I proposed to them to have the other staff that needs to be closer to him, to slide towards him (to show his influence) when he starts to take off. He likes to eat. Thus, I have a drumstick and bacon at his waist. The LV wallet and bag are gifts from the staff previously. Hobbies and themes like badminton, sleeping, goalkeeper, shopping, singing, beer-drinking, basketball, baby, car etc are given by the client. As there are 20 faces in there, I had quite a hard time (fun and satisfaction, of course) in composing this caricature artwork. I try to cut down on the sea area. I have too much of it in previous caricatures.

The pencil sketch.

Inking progress…….

Outline done!

Colouring……….

This event was held yesterday, at one-north Park, Biopolis – field next to Chromos Biulding, Buona Vista, Singapore.
My sketching service starts from 11am and ends at 12pm.
World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is a unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world. Now in its second year, World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2006 takes place on October 7th 2006.
The theme for World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2006 is Access to care for all – highlighting the fact that everyone has a right to high quality end of life care but that more needs to be done to enable everyone to access it.
The day is for anyone and everyone who cares about or is involved in hospice and palliative care anywhere in the world. If you are an organisation or an individual, with or without experience of hospice and palliative care, you can do something to support hospice and palliative care worldwide.
I will post up some photos later.

Really cool caricatures!!!

October 5, 2006

I happened to see these really cool and fine caricatures artworks online yesterday.
Post up to share with you all.
Are my clients ready to accept this styles?
I am still crossing my fingers…..(see previous post)
They may think they look cute and fun, only other people, but not for themselves.
Most of the lady clients told me that they want to look good – no double chins, no eyebags, no moles etc, no long jaws, bigger eyes (even though their eyes aren’t big).
I like these exaggerated styles and I admit it’s not easy to do it.
It works easily on caucasian, as they usually have unique and sharp features; it is more difficult for asian faces especially – most Asian features are less prominet and/or unique, some features are plain (and flat) – no offence!

The above caricatures by Sebastian Kruger.

This caricature is done by Neil Davis.

Finally! Finally it’s done.
Perhaps this is the airbrush portrait which takes me the longest time to do it.
I can’t remember how many days it takes in exact- it should be 2 to 3 weeks, on and off.
I will post up the photos of the process later.

This client is my ‘old’ customer who used to be drawn by me when I was drawing in Clarke Quay, Singapore.
She told me that that was about 4 years ago.
I asked her how did she manage to find my gallery in China Square?
She said that she remembered that I sign ‘Portrait Workshop’ on my previous caricature done for her. Hence, she went online to search for “portrait workshop’. I am so touched…..
She ordered this caricature artwork for her husband for their first year wedding anniversary.
london cafe is where they first met each other. he likes cooking, and she likes ‘Teh Tarik’.

These illustrations were done in March 2006. The client is August Consultancy, a PR company. I think the case is between a bank and a company. I can’t remeber it already. Hahaha… Bad memory……. They asked to do a few live sketches at a court scenes. It was quite a fresh experience, as this is the first time I do it. I see such sketches on newspaper often, but never thought of doing such sketches.

The pencil sketches are done live on site, i.e. the court.
The colour was added in later in Photoshop, as the client wanted a colour version to put on magazines.

This set of illustrations is from the same client from the previous post.
He needs to use these drawings for use in his gym equipments magazine.
I did the outlines in pencil, and colour in using Photoshop with my graphic tablets.

The same client from previous post.
This caricature was used for the election campaign.
I have no idea where he was going to put it, as that was only what he told me.

This illustration was done in April this year.
It was used in a brochure for an election campaign in Singapore, telling the residents of the advantages of lift-landing on every levels of the flat.
I like the cleaniness and simplicity of thisillustration style. It is an continuation of the style used in the residential estate for Keppel Corp mentioned earlier.

Just finished this caricature last night.
As mentioned earlier in my blog, this theme in which the couple wants incorporate their Chinese Zodiac Signs in the caricatures, is getting popular again (Noticed the rabbit ears, tail and the monkey hands and tail?). Is the Chinese traditional wedding suit theme also getting popular too? I have just done one few weeks ago.

This illustration was done in March 2006, for Kepperl Corporation Annual Report 2005, for its page divider.
The concept of this illustration is to have a residential estate of Singapore in the foreground, while the landmarks of countries like Shanghai (china), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Bangkok (Thailand), India, Philipines, and Vietnam, in the background. Keppel Corp. is going to use the residential mini-town all-in-one concept used in Singapore, and apply it into these contries.
This illustration is not on my website yet. I am putting up this to show a potential client who needs to illustrate different landmarks of certain countries for his website. This is a sample of the style I have done.

The initial sketch of the concept.

Colour scheme of the sketch.

Actual sketch lineworks (The client request a more sketchy lineart for the background, as everything is not concrete so far.

Inverse the lines in Photoshop.

The finished illustrations. The infrastructures in the foreground are clean and straight, in terms of illustration style. It is in vector format. I used a neon effect for the landmarks in the background, to make them more subtle and also to differentiate them from the background. The sky is a photograph pasted in.

FAQ section updated!

October 2, 2006

I have just updated the frequently-asked-questions (FAQ) section on my website.
Please hop in to take a look.
This is what I can think of currently.
If you have more questions, please email me. I will put them up.

Just done a live sketching of a caricature for a lady – Grace at my gallery just now. She made a booking 2 weeks ago. She’s here to collect the other caricature she has ordered a fortnight ago.
In fact, I did make a snapshot of her with the caricature. However, the stupid camera didn’t manage to save the file in the Memory Stick. It keeps giving me ‘file error message. I only manage to get the caricature file saved.

This is my regular client.
They always come to me for farewell and birthday gifts.
This is a farewell gift for this guy leaving their department, transfered to another department in P&G.
He carries his product with him, in a trolley, with a crystal ball in his hand (foresee the future)
Dartboard with dart, and those charts in the background etc. All these are the client’s idea.

Mascot of Jiale and Jiaxi

October 2, 2006

Just made a mascot each, for my son and daughter.
My son likes it a lot and use as logo for his blog.

This is a farewell gift for this guy who works in this Public Relations company. He’s in charge of Neptune Oriental Lines (NOL) account. The initial idea is to have the NOL wordings on the tanker. Later, the client decided to have their company logo on it.

This caricature is an order from Patricia Mok Fan Club, use for T-shirt printing and flyers.
She’s well-known for her ‘Shopping Queen’ image.
Hence, her fans use this as the theme of this caricature.

This event is held in Grand Copthorne Hotel this evening. Peter from Sonic Productions, the event company told me that it starts from 6:30pm – 7:30pm, few weeks ago. I reached at 6:15pm, and he told me that he lost my namecard, and can’t call me. The event started at 6pm. Hence, as soon as he showed me the place to sketch, I started sketching. The queue list is really long for this event – 28 people queuing. I managed to sketch 11 of them in an hour, with the last one being a special request from the client.
Some photos taken at the event here.

The lady managed to be the first to have her caricatures drawn.

Special request from the client to have the caricature drawn the special guest.

I would think this is the best caricature I have sketched for this evening.

Caricature theme – travel

September 29, 2006

Just done!
This caricature is a gift to the lady in the artwork, who loves travel, with camera and map in her hands, Colosseum in the background.

These caricatures are done in marker and digitally hand painted in Photoshop, using tablet.
My uncle, on the right of the caricatures (of course) asked me to do it for him.
Her daughter gave him a caricature done of both of them by an artist in Orchard Road, Singapore.
He felt that it’s not good. Hence, he approaches me.
I have this printout out and laminated for him as the final artwork.

Caricatures in pencil – IBM

September 29, 2006

I just happened to see this artwork done for IBM last December, deep hidden in one of the folder in my PC.
It is not on my website yet.
This is a farewell gift for the caucasian boss, with a ‘zai jian’ (goodbye) in the centre.
These 34 caricatures are done in pencil.

This client is from Purple Sage Creative Catering in Singapore.
This caricature is meant to be a surprise gift for their boss.
This is a really urgent job, as they need it in a few hours’ time.

DI for Citibank

September 28, 2006

This job is done on 12th Sep.
Just get the confirmation from the client that this DI is fine.
It’s been sent for printing.

This is the original image they bought for use as the page divider.

They need to change the signs to USD, EUR, GBP, AUD and NZD, in sequence.
As the wordings need to be embossed on the sign panels, I use 3dsmax to do this, trying to get as close to the image above as possible.

Just doodling……

September 28, 2006

Doodled this small sketch some time back. I quite like it. and don’t know where to post on my website.
Think this is a better place to post it.

Balthasar mobile stand

September 28, 2006

This is the illustration printout as mobile stand which I have mentioned earlier, for THOS SB , Raffles the Plaza.
It was done this May.
However, the client later decides to make some changes to the burger size and amended the illustration.
This is the photo I managed to take on site – Raffles City, Singapore, in front of a retail shop.
Now, they have four of them printed out, waiting for the other 2 illustrations to be printed out, and displayed all of them in different location of Raffles City, to direct the crowd to THOS SB on level 3 of the shopping mall.

This is a movie produced by Bollywood long ago.
The client likes it so much that he decides to use it
as the theme for his and his wife caricatures.

Sleek acrylic frame

September 28, 2006

This is the printout of the scanned-in caricatures of IPM-Asia framed in an acrylic frame.
Feel really sleek when I got it just now.
I think the photos taken don’t do justice to this frame, though I shoot it against different background.
It looks a lot better when you really see the actual frame.

Taken against the black wall in my gallery.

View from the left.

Taken against a white mounting board.

Caricature on on ink stamp

September 28, 2006

This is an orderplaced by the client of IPM-Asia. She wants to have her caricature to be made into an ink stamp, with an additional red ink refill (on the right of the photo).
This image is ripped from the group caricatures of IPM-Asia I have drawn few days ago.
Isn’t this cute?
To my surprise, I placed the order at noon time yesterday, and the supplier managed to deliver it by evening time, on the same day. Really efficient!!! Thanks, Jeff and Lisa.

This is the final piece of the 6 life-size illustrations for THOS SB of Raffles the Plaza. I finally managed to get them done last night. Hopefully the client is fine with it, and we can send the Busy Ben and this illustrations for printout as mobile stands, for the client to put in different corners of Raffles City, Singapore. And I am ready to collect my $$$. Hahaha…….. This is the longest project I have done so far. 9 months!!! Unbelievable…………..
